CXC COURSES
These are 9-month courses geared towards students sitting the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) exams in January and May/June of each year. The course for the January exams starts in January of the previous year while the course for the May/June exam starts in July of the previous year. Please note that while the CXC (CSEC) EDPM iexams are sat in May/June ONLY, the CXC (CSEC) Information Technology exams are sat twice per year. It is recommended that the basic courses are completed before attempting a CXC course.

Classes are held Monday to Saturday from 4.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.

CXC CSEC INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
This syllabus is designed to provide a coherent view of the significance of information in a socio-economic context. Emphasis is placed on application of knowledge, problem-solving using the computer, and proficiency in using productivity tools. This approach has been adopted in recognition of the impact that changes in the availability of information can have on the educational process. Focus is placed on getting students to develop skills for life in an increasingly technological world, rather than on students absorbing a myriad of seemingly unrelated facts which may have only short term relevance.
The syllabus aims to expose candidates to a wide range of Information and Communication Technologies, affording learning experiences which include an element of discovery, and foster self-confidence. Candidates would also acquire computer-related practical skills that will prepare them to meet the region’s need for increased productivity and efficiency in a fast changing technological world. The syllabus has been organized to offer certification at the General Proficiency only.
The syllabus is organized under eight main sections:

Section 3 - Social and Economic Impact of Information and Communications Technology
Section 4 - Word-Processing and Web Page Design
Section 5 - Spreadsheets
Section 6 - Database Management
Section 7 - Problem-Solving and Program Design
Section 8 - Program Implementation

CSEC ELECTRONIC DOCUMENT PREPARATION AND MANAGEMENT
This syllabus is designed to equip students with knowledge and computer-related skills required to enhance the performance of clerical and administrative tasks. The EDPM syllabus will provide a holistic approach to acquisition of knowledge and the development of candidates’ decision-making and problem-solving skills. It is suited for candidates pursuing any discipline, as the competencies and skills developed in the preparation and management of electronic documents are interdisciplinary and imperative in the world of work or in the pursuit of further studies.
The syllabus is arranged in nine sections, subdivided into specific objectives and corresponding content:

Section 5 - Business Document Preparation

CAPE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
CAPE Information Technology is the study, design, development, implementation, support and management of computer-based information systems, including software applications and computer hardware. The CAPE Information Technology Syllabus will enable students to use technology to participate in, and contribute to the new technological world. They will become conscious of the impact of Information and Communication Technologies, and how the appropriate use of Information Technology can help to solve the problems, including those of an economic, social or personal nature. This syllabus emphasizes the importance of Information Technology to the economic and social development of the region.
This syllabus is arranged into TWO Units, each made up of three Modules:

Module 1 - Fundamentals of Information Technology
Module 2 - Information Technology Systems
Module 3 - Information and Problem-Solving

UNIT 2:- Application and Implication:
Module 1 - Information Management
Module 2 - Use of Information Technology Tools
Module 3 - Social, Organizational and Personal Issues

CAPE COMPUTER SCIENCE
CAPE Computer Science is the study of the theoretical foundations of information and computation and their implementation and application in computer systems. The CAPE Computer Science Syllabus provides persons with advanced knowledge, skills and attitudes to enable them to understand the uses and the impact of computer technologies, and to use the technology to create new computer applications for all areas of human activity. This syllabus provides opportunity for the acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes as preparation for further studies in Computer Science and the world of work.
This syllabus consists of two Units, each comprising three Modules.
